More Networking

This article was published in Spanish on linkedIn on November 15, 2016. The link to Dani Montes' short film 'Yo tb tq' (ILUT) has been updated and now points to a version of the video subtitled in English and Spanish.

This (Carrie Strangis, CRC's photo) was shown to me a few days ago after the photo received a “like” by Suresh Parimi. I contacted Suresh on linkedIn last September after I "liked" an article published by him in the Software Engineering group. Since then, we have hardly shared any comments.

Maybe it's a known technique but I've never seen it before. I commented to Lara Fernández what Carrie was doing and, after a brief conversation by mail, she suggested that I publish it. Here it is.

For me, the novelty is that it is the first time I see Linkedin used in an "active" way, to call it somehow.

What I mean is that, in addition to uploading her resume and waiting for it to be read and arousing interest (which would be a "passive" or "static" approach), Carrie uploaded an update that included her photo and a brief message (albeit a quite generic message) and, in just over 15 days, she received over 1600 visits.

It looked to me just like what Lara had told us at the Networking seminar. It is true that in this case the media is digital and the scene is global - although Carrie has a very specific geographical area - but the relevant ideas are the same.

Due to the limitations of written language, I do not think it can replace "face-to-face conversation" (see short on communication 'Yo tb tq', (ILUT), for example) but, in my opinion, it can still be considered to be a very powerful tool.

Ésto (Carrie Strangis, CRC's photo) me llegó hace unos días rebotado por Suresh Parimi, con quien entré en contacto en linkedIn el pasado mes de Septiembre después de "gustear" un artículo suyo publicado en el grupo de Software Engineering. Desde entonces, apenas si habíamos compartido, eventualmente, algún comentario.


Quizá sea un método conocido pero yo no lo había visto nunca. Lo comenté con Lara Fernández y después de una breve conversación por correo, me sugirió publicarlo. Aquí lo dejo.


Para mí, la novedad consiste en que es la primera vez que veo utilizar Linkedin de una manera "activa" por llamarlo de alguna forma.


Quiero decir que, además de colgar su currículum y esperar a que sea leído y despierte interés (lo que sería una manera "pasiva" o "estática"), Carrie ha compartido una Update (no sé como se llamará en el linkedin en español, lo siento) con su foto y un mensaje breve (genérico, es verdad) y lo cierto es que en poco más de 15 días ya contaba con más de 1600 visitas.


A mí me ha parecido “clavao” a lo que Lara nos contaba en el seminario de Networking. Es verdad que en este caso, el medio es digital y el escenario global -aunque Carrie tiene un área geográfica de preferencia muy concreta- pero las ideas relevantes son las mismas.


Por las limitaciones del lenguaje escrito, no creo que pueda sustituir al “encuentro en persona”, a quedar con alguien (ver Corto sobre comunicación 'Yo tb tq', por ejemplo) pero, en mi opinión, podría considerarse como una acción complementaria muy poderosa.
